Rev. Dr. David Allen Jr. achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion & Philosophy from Bethune-Cookman University; and Master of Divinity and Master of Christian Education from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His training has included but is not limited to the following: Certified PATH 1 Coach for General Board of Discipleship; Sensitivity and Inclusivity Training with Visions, Inc.; New Church Leadership Institute; Institute for Preaching at Duke University; and Strengthening the Black Church.

Rev. Allen is the Founding Pastor of Hope of Glory United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, and served from 2003-2007.  Rev. Allen also served as the Associate Pastor of Evangelism at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Florida from 2007-2013.  While there, he served a 4,000-member congregation, and supported staff members and offered spiritual leadership to many of the congregants. As the Associate Pastor, he taught discipleship programs, led worship services, and restructured policies to better serve the congregation and the community. To date, he has assisted in receiving over 580 new members into the life of the church.

Rev. Allen’s significant achievements include supervisory experience of 60 employees and a maintenance team that oversaw 67 acres. His background includes numerous ministries, i.e., Chapel Ministries, Outreach and Evangelism, Sports & Recreation, Higher Ground Bookstore, Hospital & Parish Visitation, and Food Services. He has assisted in the administrative planning and oversight of the Florida Annual Conference which welcomed over 700 churches this past June of 2015 at Bethune-Cookman University and has led several local church ministries such as, ALPHA, ALPHA Marriage, New Members Orientation, Discovery Class, SHAPE-Spiritual Gifts Discovery, Stephen Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Adult Discipleship, Contemporary Worship Services, and Spiritual Formation Small Groups. In addition to providing pre-marital, marriage, family, and grief counseling, he also organized and developed a community back-to-school rally and family health fair that served hundreds of residents in the urban community.

Rev. Allen served as the first Dean of the Chapel/ Executive Chaplain at Bethune-Cookman University’s for three years, and as Assistant Dean in the School of Religion for 4 years. He’s now a proud faculty member who teaches Spiritual Formation, Understanding Faith, and contextual education courses. In June of 2019 Rev. Allen earned a doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and is looking to write books and articles about the need for reform, diversity and healthy sustainability.


He is happily married to Mrs. Courtney M. Allen and they have three wonderful children: Trinity, Zahir and Nygel Allen.
